Teufelsdrockh speaks of tradition and how much of what we see and believe will last into the generations after us. The very forms of government, as spoken before, are like clothes that after time need to be changed. Over time we take tradition and change or manipulate what we knew and apply or transform those original ideas into that of what is relevent of the present time. Much more of our society, our traditions, are passed down orally or through literature. "Of Man's Activity and Attainment the chief results are aeriform, mystic and preserved in Tradition only:"(pg1012) He goes on to relating this to the forms of government as well. The material goods which we posses, as important as they may be, are not fixed, but must be passed down to preserve tradition and history.
The book is a form of preserving the tradition, the history and passing this down from father to son. "We have books that already number some hundred-and-fifty human ages"(pg1012). These books are what allows are forms of government, our development of laws and passing down of tradition to occur throughout history.
