Everyone has made great points, Pip and Kim both have similarities (as many have already mentioned) of being orphans and searching for an identity. I think that this search for identity is a big theme in Victorian Lit. as we have read a lot of literature dealing with it in one way or another throughout this semester, very interesting... and I think that journey to 'self-discovery' so to say, is still a big theme today, not just limited to the Victorians...

Going Along with the idea that Kim and Pip are both orphans, I also think it is interesting that at the beginning of both novels, they meet odd men. What I mean by "odd" is that Pip meets the convict in the first part of "Great Expectations" and Kim meets the old priestly fellow who at first is somewhat strange. I think it is interesting how both of our protagonists come across people who change their lives early on in the story. I also agree with Tamara in that they are both searching for an identity and they meet these two adults who shape their identity as they grow up.
